Recently, we spoke with visual effects studio CamasutraVR about a new AR porn app they have in the works. The app is called ‘HARdcore’ and has been developed for AR enabled Android devices. The application allows you to watch and participate in sex acts with 3D virtual avatars of popular pornstars in the real-world. We tried out the demo where we got the chance to fully experience being in the company of well-known adult star Casey Calvert as she gets pounded in various locations around the room in nothing but a set of studded high heels. How Does It Work?

Like many augmented reality apps, HARdcore asks users to pick a point in the surrounding area where they’d like the virtual objects to appear. Your smartphone will then begin to scan for flat surfaces. You’ll wait a few seconds before AR porn then appears in full action. The app commences with Casey on her knees sucking off male pornstar Donny Sins.

You can relocate the positioning and scale the avatars by simply holding and dragging. Pinching and turning will also rotate the virtual pornstars 360 degrees so you can admire from every angle without having to move. It takes just seconds to go from watching a life-sized voyeur scene from across the other side of the room, to having a miniature version being carried on the coffee table in front of you. Another key point it is if you put your phone down, the app remembers the area that was scanned. Once you lift your phone back up again, the app will begin re-tracking and carry on the show where you left off.

What Can I Do?

The HARdcore AR porn app currently comes with a total of 5 animations to choose from. Blowjob, doggy style, missionary, plus 2 separate solo performances. Of those five, each one has multiple variations of how you can experience them. For example. The doggystyle animation has 6 different pre-sets. You can watch the show from a voyeur perspective whereby you sit back and enjoy your very own personal show in the location of your choice. Quality

I’ve experienced augmented reality apps and games enough times now to have a fair idea of what to expect in terms of visual quality. However. I was still pleasantly surprised. CamasutraVR use a lot of combinations of 3D scanning, avatar rigging plus other AR technology in an aim to create the ultimate virtual pornstars. While inspecting closely. Important areas like pussy, nipples and ass-hole have noticeably had considerable effort made on bringing out the detail. The avatars also come with facial expressions like moaning and smiling.

The most noticeable areas that need improvement are the eyes, hair and mouth. I’d compare the graphics to the cut scenes from Lara Croft Tomb Raider / GTA on PS3. Good, but not yet reached the uncanny valley. This is probably about as good as anyone can expect from an AR app at this stage. So, everything is looking promising.

“Crafting a lifelike nude character in real-time is our holy grail,” CamasutraVR explains. “This is a complicated technical endeavour that requires a tremendous amount of research. Unlike pre-rendered blockbuster movies, where it can take days to render one frame. We are trying to achieve this in real-time and at 90 frames per second!”

What’s Next?

It’s no secret that CamasutraVR have been working on turning 100’s of real-life pornstars in to 3D virtual avatars. In a recent discussion, CamasutraVR revealed to us that they plan to soon incorporate 10 of those models in to augmented reality app HARdcore.
